I loved this story, even with the gritty, dark history surrounding the heroine. Celia had survived a very rough childhood and lived a solitary existence so that no one else would get hurt. Alec had seen his share of bad and wanted to correct all that his father had ruined. He was so taken with Celia from the get go, he was willing to make her life better, despite her resistance. By the end of this story, I had tears in my eyes because I became invested in their love. I love Madeline Martin's writing and look forward to more.
I had a chance to read this through Netgalley for an honest review.
